Remote Learners: Restoring the Right to Learn
In Benin, public elementary education may be free, but for many families, the true barrier is the cost of school supplies, books, backpacks, uniforms, and even shoes. These essentials are often out of reach for parents who are already struggling to feed their families. Faced with impossible choices, many are forced to say no to education, year after year, while promising their children, “Next year, we’ll put you in school.” But for too many, next year never comes.
At Advance Benin, we are changing that reality. Our Remote Learners and Scholarship Program identifies children from the most vulnerable communities, many of whom have never stepped foot in a classroom or were pulled out to work as domestic servants or field laborers. We work alongside local school leaders and authorities to help these children begin their educational journey. That includes securing vital documentation like birth certificates and providing full school kits: uniforms, backpacks, books, supplies, and more.
